WEN Hair Care Reviews
Want to find out the truth about WEN Hair Care products? Read what real users have to say about them!
WEN Hair Care products by Los Angeles stylist Chaz Dean are made without damaging chemicals such as sodium laurel sulfate. The unique Cleansing Conditioner is a 5-in-1 product that acts as a shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner.
Who’s it For?
WEN Hair Care products are designed for people who want to explore more natural, less damaging alternatives to traditional hair care. The products do not contain sulfates and detergents, which are known to remove the natural oils from our hair and leave us with dry, frizzy, damaged hair. WEN claims that their products are for every hair type from fine to dry to oily and everywhere in between.
Pros
The main pros of WEN Hair Care products are:
- Sulfate-, paraben- and shampoo-free
- Reduces need for excessive products
- Can be used on a variety of hair types
- Has been used by hundreds of thousands of women – plenty of reviews are available
As mentioned above, the unique thing about the main WEN Hair Care product, the Cleansing Conditioner, is that it is shampoo-free and takes the place of five products (shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner). Rather than using shampoo and conditioner, you simply apply the Cleansing Conditioner with a multi-step application process. (Note: See below for our application tips.)
Cons
When reading WEN Hair Care reviews, some users complained of oily hair. Because WEN Hair Care products are shampoo-free, not using the appropriate amount of Cleansing Conditioner can cause problems with excessive product build-up that leaves hair oily or weighed down.
Here is what one WEN Hair Care review suggests:
I use 8-10 pumps and my hair is to my waist. It may not feel like enough at first, just keep rubbing it in. Add a dab of water or two. That is plenty, you will see. Then keep massaging and leave in for 5 minutes. After that, with the conditioner, NEVER use more than a dime size dab and rub it lightly into your hands. Then apply to the lower shaft of hair, middle way to ends. If you use too much product you will hate it and go broke.
Many other reviews also suggested to use less product than the directions recommend to avoid oily hair.
The Solution to WEN Hair Care Complaints
Although WEN sells the products directly through their website and infomercials via an auto-bill club program, some consumers have complained online about the club.
The thing is, based on WEN Hair Care reviews at sites like Amazon, a lot of consumers like WEN Hair Care! As with any product there are some negative reviews, but many of the negative reviews are about the club program.
Luckily, instead of purchasing through the club program, you can try out the products individually via Amazon. Here’s a comparison chart showing you what you would get if you joined the WEN Hair Care club versus purchasing on Amazon:
Keep in mind that even though all of the links above are from different sellers on Amazon, they are all fulfilled by Amazon, so you will still get free super saver shipping!

About a month ago, I purchased WEN Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner through Amazon. Before purchasing, I spent a great deal of time reading reviews from other users. Unfortunately this isn’t a product that you can buy and throw on your hair without thinking it through. I found it to be a great product, but I had to put the effort into finding the right amount to use for my hair.
Because I have tried out a lot of sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners, I was expecting the lack of lather that this product produces. Do not take this as meaning you need to add more to your hair! I think a lot of people add a bunch to their hair, thinking they need to see lather, and that just gets the product gunked up in their hair.
You’re “supposed” to use three to eight pumps per section (four sections) of hair depending on your hair type, but after reading negative reviews about weighed down hair, I knew that would make my hair look awful. I started off with ONE pump per section, didn’t feel it was enough, and settled at two pumps per section. That’s all! FYI, my hair is just below my armpit and medium thickness. Obviously you will need to adjust for your hair type.
I followed the rinsing instructions exactly: rinse in cold water, rinse for a long time, and rinse before AND after use.
Lastly, based on what I read in other reviews, I also decided to do a once-a-month shampoo with a sulfate-free shampoo, just to ensure that I won’t experience any product build-up from the Cleansing Conditioner.
All in all, I was pleased with the WEN Cleansing Conditioner and am going to try some of their other products. However, I really wish the instructions were better because I think people would have much better experiences.
I disliked wenhaircare products and when I returned the products they refused to refund me eventhough I have received approval from their customer service to ship the product anyhow I lost extra $25 on mail and I got $00 back. be careful I dont recommend this company products, I feel that all the recommendation adds were from fake people. don’t trust this company.
Hi Walid,
I completely agree that many people have had problems with the WEN automatic bill club, which is why I addressed it in my post and suggested that people order through Amazon instead. That way they can test out the products without receiving additional shipments.
Once on their mailing list you’ll be spammed forever. Not worth the cost or trouble. I found homemade cleansers online that work just as well
I have been using Wen for about a year now and I love it! I am surprised at some of the reviews that talk about it making their hair oily. I have not had that experience. My hair length is just above my shoulders, fine textured and oily. I have to wash my hair every day. I use Wen, and don’t really follow all of the very explicit instructions that come with it because they are a little much for me. I do use enough pumps for good coverage (about 6 pumps), however I don’t use cold water and I don’t leave it in for as long as it says. I rinse thoroughly with warm – hot water. I was having trouble with frizziness after the birth of my daughter (my hair texture changed), and Wen leaves it so soft and a lot less frizzy than when I was using “regular” shampoo. It is one product that actually does what it says it will do – improve your hair.
The first couple of times that I used the Wen product my hair looked Great! Then I noticed after using the product almost 3 weeks my hair was looking finer and starting to break off. That had never happened to me before.
I went to see my hair dresser and he told to stop using Wen.That it was thinning my hair. That he had other customers and friends that had the same experience with the product. I called Wen and their response was that I needed their Lavender product. That dry fine hair was better with Lavender than with Sweet Almond Mint but was not available with the TV offer. Hello! I told them upfront when they asked me about my hair that it was fine and dry. Now I can’t get the broken and thinned hair back. People need to be aware that the stories are not always positive. The shampoo time is much longer which would have been worth it –if the experiences would have been the same as the first two times.
i bought the fig cleaning conditioner about two months ago. my cousin tried the original type from the wen site and liked it, so i researched the products online and decided to buy the fig formulation b/c it’s supposed to be good for dry and color treated hair. honestly, i was not a fan of the smell–very weird, i read another review that said it smelled like cough syrup and i agree. i do like it tho and feel like it has made my hair softer and less frizzy. i didn’t have any hair shedding issues but maybe that’s b/c my hair is thick? my biggest complaint is that it’s a bit expensive, so i may only buy it on occasion.
LOVE. The only shampoo (well, not-shampoo) I’ve tried that doesn’t fade my hair color!!! You have to rinse like crazy though and CLARIFY once every week or two. I use “Neutrogena Anti-Residue” to clarify. A bottle is about $6 to $8 and lasts a really long time.
